Crystal Bowersox is leaving her mic stand at home

Idols have to pack light when they take to the road for the summer tour. After all, they’ve got to fit four girls on one bus, and six guys on the other. That didn’t stop Katie Stevens from piling up her bunk with pillows. “I sleep with a lot of pillows,” she says. “I don’t know why; it just gives me a sense of security.” When the Idols traveled to New York for the launch of the M&M’s Pretzels, each Idol got to go on a shopping spree at M&M’s World in Times Square.

“I got three M&M’s pillows, so I’m bringing those, and I got an M&M’s blanket,” Katie says. “I’m sure there are more pillows. My bunk is just going to be like me in a coffin of pillows.”

In addition to her guitar, Didi Benami brought her journal. “I always have a small journal that I usually keep in my bag,” she says. “It’s colorful, and it has a little bookmark in it, so I have my page marked about my experiences and how I’m feeling about everything.”

Lee DeWyze also brought a guitar, as well as a computer. And if you see a pair of Chuck Taylor Converse high tops, chances are they belong to him (and, chances are, they’re still on his feet). Any leather jacket probably belongs to Lee, too.

“I’m like the Fonz,” Lee says. “Not post-water skis, pre-water skis.”

One item that, surprisingly, didn’t make the cut for the summer tour: Crystal Bowersox’s mic stand. Instead, she’s using a wireless headset during her part of the show.

“I feel like I’m cheating on my mic stand a little bit,” she says.

However, she did bring along a pair of her son’s shoes, which she usually hangs on the mirror in her dressing room, or wherever she can find a place.

“I tried to pack light,” she says. “I don’t need much. Just brought a couple outfits that I’ll go through and have to wash all the time.”
